Making your Valentine shopping from your mobile device is becoming more and more popular, especially among men. According to a new report by Mojiva, more than 55% of the men surveyed choose purchasing Valentine’s Day gifts from their mobile over visiting the retail location. In fact nearly 80% think it will be easier to buy a Valentine’s Day gift from their mobiles than from the store.
Finally, Mojiva’s study also shows that 48% of men and 40% of women spend more than $50 on just one Valentine gift. These figures aren’t surprising because smartphone owners have their devices with them all the time so their mobiles are the first place they go to for shopping ideas and recommendations.
Another reason smartphone owners (especially men) prefer buying Valentine gifts from their phones is the privacy smartphones offer, meaning that you haven’t used your PC to purchase the gift so your husband or wife don’t know what you’re getting them.
Different retailers have different ways to make your Valentine’s Day shopping easier for you, some stores like Saks Fifth Avenue have smartphone apps (available for both iPhone and iPad) containing their Valentine’s Day Sales with a guide to gifts for him and her.
And Bloomingdale’s has also joined mobile applications world with its “So Much to Love” gift guide, available for iPhone and Android devices:
Nordstrom‘s smartphone app has a gift guide with subcategories so that you can shop by price, recipient and item type.
Retailers benefit more from these apps because it’s been proved that if you can shop from the spot you’ve got a lower drop-off rate. Gift guides are a good way to raise awareness for the commerce functions of users’ mobile and tablet applications. Other brands that also benefit from gift guides are Marc Jacobs, Valentino, Jimmy Choo, Fendi or Prada.
